The challenge
Carma had identified a number of areas that needed to improve within their digital product. Their product is market-leading, however many features were hidden within the platform and unused by the majority of customers.
Vying against competitors like Brand Watch, Carma needed to improve their user experience and help customers take advantage of the full range of product functionality. With many competitor platforms following a similar design style, Carma was ready to break from the pack and offer something new, exciting and effective.
UX workshops & sprints
We collaborated closely with stakeholders at Carma during a number of UX workshops to gain a deeper understanding of the product and the roadmap for the coming months.
Our focus was to increase the accessibility of functionality within the platform and create intuitive user experiences. We needed to provide usable and useful insights to Carma’s clients in order to drive usage and client retention.
Our UX team created new interface layouts and user journeys to help Carma meet their objectives. We worked in 2 week design sprints to deliver rapid interface change that would drive business outcomes and enable Carma’s development team to start implementing the new designs.

UI design system & component library
Enabling Carma’s development team was fundamental to the success of the project – whatever we designed needed to be built.
We created a UI design system and component library for Carma’s team, enabling them with a pre-approved catalogue of components that they could use to deliver the platform. This removed the risk of delivering an inconsistent design, particularly as the platform scaled. The component library formed a living style guide that outlined the brand and UI design application throughout the platform.
Data visualisation
Carma’s insights and reporting tools are key value drivers for the product and were identified as being under-utilised.
Understanding that Marketing and PR Managers needed to leverage the charts and tables available within the platform for their internal reporting, our UX designers implemented new user journeys that focused on providing insights rather than just data. In this way, Carma’s clients would receive the greatest value from the product and achieve their own objectives.
Our UX team overhauled the chart visualisations and reviewed the user journeys within this part of the interface. We merged information from different parts of the platform to create a more unified user experience.
The outcome is a dashboard that tells a performance story to PR & Marketing Managers that can be communicated to their own stakeholders.
